Keeping it regular

Okay, so I’m the first to admit that I don’t know where the term “keeping it regular” comes from. What is ‘regular anyway and if you aren’t ‘regular’ then does that make you ‘irregular’? Regardless of the term the issue of constipation is a real struggle for many people. I’ve been fortunate enough to never battle with this but I do know that when I don’t answer to natures call and delay this daily process that I feel the pressure later in the day and feel the negative effects. Most people know all too well the downside to constipation but what stands out for me is that it makes you feel sluggish. Continue reading “Keeping it regular”

Juicing for kids

I’m 42 years old now but still have vivid memories of being a child and my mother, being the responsible parent, trying to get me to eat the veggies on my dinner plate. Why is it such a psychological barrier for a kid when presented with this scenario? Is it because every TV commercial only focuses on making heroes out of junk food and ignores vegetables as the ugly runt? Continue reading “Juicing for kids”

Rebooting

As much as we try live healthy lifestyles and stick to a good eating plan it doesn’t always work out. Life happens. Whether it is work stress, traveling, enjoying moments of celebration such as Christmas, navigating the winter months, we all go through periods when we go off course and our weight can slip. This is why I love rebooting. Continue reading “Rebooting”

Juicing for a purpose

Juicing is a great way to get a variety of fruits and vegetables in your meal in a single serving. One doesn’t have to overload your plate with loads of large sized spinach leaves or celery sticks because in a juice form it’s much easier to consume, with all the benefits. The beauty of juicing is that you’re taking in veggies in their raw form and there is no nutrient loss compared to cooking them.

Training with your kids

Athletics training with my kids

At the age of 42 I often think that this is the age that things can go physically south or you can pull back the years and revisit your youth. I’m a father of three amazing kids, with a daughter age 9 and twins boys age 6. I’m fortunate because they all love sport and are forever playing outdoors with no shortage of competitive rivilary. Many of my friends have kids and I often observe they don’t really partake in their kids sporting activities. They may throw a ball to their child but will make little effort to chase after a stray ball. Continue reading “Training with your kids”

Juicing – a life changer

I’ve always been a healthy and active person through gym, mountain biking, and enjoying team sports. Diet has never featured high on my agenda apart from cutting back on junk food and concentrating more on eating protein and reducing carbs when looking to get into good shape ahead of summer. I’m not an adventurous eater and in the past didn’t eat a large variety of fruits and vegetables.

This all changed just over two years ago and oddly on a trip to Nigeria. I had just stepped up my weight training and gone on my normal Atkins type diet but this time I really felt that my body was lacking something. I sat in my hotel room that night and jumped onto Netflix to pass time. It was by chance that I stumbled upon a movie called ‘Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead’, which documented an Australian who went on a journey of juicing and losing a stack of weight over a 50 day period. I was inspired by his story and figured that if I can’t stomach certain veggies, such as beetroot, then perhaps juicing was my answer. Surely I could just down a mixed fruit and veggie juice even if it didn’t taste great? Continue reading “Juicing – a life changer”
